traffic volume in egnatia motorway

Important increases in traffic volumes of Egnatia motorway during summer 2009

The construction works of the Egnatia motorway are completed and it's now fully open to traffic. Comparing the traffic volume counts carried out during the period August -September of 2008 & 2009 there is a clear result in terms of daily average traffic volume increase. This traffic volume increase is more intense at the western sections of the motorway (from 27% up to 105% between the West Siatista IC to Selles IC), since critical sections such as the Grevena-Panagia part in the regions of Epirus and West Macedonia were delivered to traffic in the first semester of 2009. Actually, the bigger percentage increase is observed at the motorway's sections between the cities of Metsovo and Ioannina in Epirus region.
