New reports by the Egnatia motorway Observatory (currently available only in greek language):
1. Estimating the Egnatia motorway's effect in spatial polycentric development
Extracts of synopsis: The report aims to investigate the and assess the effects of Egnatia motorwa, along with its vertical axes, in polycentricity of Northern Greece. The wider scientific question is “how can we estimate the spatial effects of a large transport project in terms of polycentricity?" The report takes into account methodological elements from the international bibliography and it adapts them to the case of road infrastructure. The most important conclusion of the report results from the dynamics of contribution of the examined motorways concerning observed functional polycentricity. The degree of contribution however depends from the total of territorial policies and how these are applied, and not only from the figurative transport infrastructures. The changes that it can involve the improved interconnection can influence moreover and model the functional polycenrticity of the region, bringing in the limelight of territorial planning interconnections of intermediary settlements of 3rd level, that mean possibility of new territorial organisation and arrangement of activities and services.
